Day 61 "Dwarfs and Crows and Jules"

Hey there

Last post was a little sad, but I see some bright and shiny light at the end of the tunnel. Soon there will be some great progress, I feel it.
Here is the greater part of the little fun stuff, I had to do for Design-school.

This is all I've got right now. There is more but its a client thing i can't show plus some really scribbly tries to do anatomy with a brush-pen. I didn't find the proper way to do it yet, but with the Dwarfs and Jules I think I'm getting there.
The Crow study was a lot of fun. I took some time, to render it but really the feathers, this shimmery crap with green and pink and cyan shimmering and shining in it, might be a step or two above my ability.
Nonetheless on all of those pieces I grew a tiny bit and I liked that challenge.
Maybe figuring out some complex texture stuff could get me forward? Well, lets keep doing that. :)
Will do a lot more now, that the pile of work is shrinking rapidly.
Plus I found out a lot of amazing things considering the brain and how you can learn a lot more effectively.
These things and my newly found obsession with order, might kick of something really nice in the near future.
Have a great one Guys,

regards
Mitch

Day 50 resumé

Hi there
Today I'm pretty critical about what I achieved within these 50 Days.
The past week was and the upcoming two will be totally filled with work for Design-school and "commision work".
I'm not happy with the fact, that I didn't do studies and it really bothers me how much I suck when it comes to painting imaginative stuff for commission or class work.
Having a client who expects something, really puts pressure on top of what you do, when you yourself think you are not good enough right now. For the past week I barely slept more than 5 hours a night and for somebody who normally sleeps a lot (about 8 hours) this kind of thing sort of amplifies the feeling of failure mentioned above.
last friday i did 2 studies here they are.
I'll make another one of Tywin I wanted to make him really badass so much... but then I just had to start working on the layout crap... I'll do it again though, right after this or week there should be a lot of room for studying.
I forgot to set this landmark right. Day 50...
For Day 100, I'll have a structured time management, where I got everything i want to do under control and not piling up like that ever again. Thats my first goal right now. To get back into my deathline again.
Sorry i'm tired.
Gona go to sleep. gn8

Day #44 More incs and bloodbros speedstudy

All done today.

loosening up with A1 graphite hogarth study (fucked up torso length x3)

I call it a "blood bros study" because I paint exactly for the time this mix is playing.

which is about 39 minutes. Ref from terragaleria.com, found with stumbleupon.com :3
My goal with this is, to learn to establish the drawing correctly and in the shortest amount of time...

Day 43 inks inc.

The Coming weeks are getting crazy. Nonetheless I'm experimenting again. Tried out some fancy new combo of pastels and brushpen.
This guys is awesome... Yoji Shikawa painting solid snake. Amazing guy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gJQyVfKZJg
This is sort of what inspired me to get into doing something more with the brushpen.
All drawings down today. The harpie idea is a little older but i didn'T like the first example... so i tried some new variations and came up with #2, which sucked even worse going over to number 3 which i eventually liked a bit more.
The painting process will still be going on and i've got some more paintings coming up but I wana leave something to show for tommrow. Of course there will be more drawings as well ;).
Crits are very welcome.(Need to grow!!!)

Have a nice one.

Day 40 "Basic Rights for Greate Apes"

Hey Guys,

Last Week I promised you something bigger.
A dear friend told me this was the best piece I did so far, so I figured, I post the progress this piece took over the last one and a half month.
Well, before that I will explain shortly, why i did this piece and why it is somewhat important to me.
In my Design-School we've got all sorts of classes and since I chose Illustration as my Major I've got one class in which we, in this term at least, have to create a Piece Each month.
The Topic of this Piece is totally up to us, like many of the projects we work on, the only requirement for this is that we add typography to the piece which should be about 1/3 of the piece(the other 2/3 being the illustration itself).
Two month ago, we went to the zoo again, like we do each year before summer vacation. Long story short, there was one emotion that totally got stuck with me.

As we saw the Gorillas my stomach tumbled, as one big old male looked at me with sad yet somewhat dull eyes. It was a brief moment, but that moment set free an avalanche of thought later on. Another gorilla started acting up, craving all the attention of the human audience. A few moments later a Gorilla-baby caught my eye. It was going over to the old male, who was paying him concerned attention, as he clumsily sat down beside, him leaning to his side. Imagine how I felt, having only looked down on these beautiful beings. I was ashamed for my race in a certain way and felt arrogant as human being how we treat them, putting ourselves on top of creation.
This is what I don't like about mankind including myself, i always have to compare myself to everyone...
This thing divides us from each other, sets nations apart and on another scale, hurts innocent ones. It's ok to be proud of where you come from, but its not OK to think higher of yourself, just because you belong to a diffrent ethnic group. We are one race and only because we go through hardships together, we evolved and made it this far. There is no place for arrogance and ignorance in this century, not if we want to move on and make this world a better place.
However, shortly after going to the Zoo, I read National Geographic Issue of July 2012(German edition).
I instantly remembered what happened at the zoo, just a few weeks past and suddenly felt an urge to do something about this.
I still had to do my work for illustration class, so I chose this topic and here I am writing this post.

Now without further do, here is the process how it got there and the final version.

first ideas

Have a great on guys,
regards,

Mitch

Day 34

Hey

It's a Monday, the first Monday after summer-term-vacation. The first month of my challenge is done.
I'm updating the blog now because its about time i write something in here again ...
aaand I figuerd out my third goal.
Now I'll just mention it quickly and go back to work because there's an awful lot piling up.
Last week was one of these weeks, where my motivation took a break.
I had to do the designschool stuff again well however here is the third goal.

3# To get a lot more organized and to work with more discipline.

These to aspects are needed ofcourse I will need them to reach my to top goals.

What this goal means is essentially the way I live. There seems to be a lack of efficiacny in everything I do at this moment. My Artwork for example, I just kinda smear around without plan, only having a few steps in mind... This method works to paint one painting that is ok but it just wont do when I have to do large amounts of illustration work for the diploma. Where as during my working days I need to get my time better managed, there seem to be about 2-3 hours lost to unnecessary stuff like getting lost on Facebook or to games. Don't get me wrong I love games and TV shows but this has to come after my days work in a chill out time, f.e. before going to bed.
Concluding this there is one thing left to say, which is, that you can only do one thing at a time. You have to finish one thing before going over to the next, this is crucial to get things done, otherwise you might have to start over with things you just left hanging in the process. Its like shooting with bows. With one shot you can only hit one goal. you can't shoot 2 arrows. Just go for one target after the other.
So I will tackle this goal now, and go on, step by step.

Whooo i just heard the golden-boys are back. I think I'll take this month and dedicate it to studying environments. But for now here is a small selfportrait study I did for class(thats why the eyes need to be this big). 2 1/2 hours.

I've painted and drawn several things but some things are not quite ready and some are not so desirable...
So  I'll try and put up something cool next week hopefully alongside some goldeboy stuff.

have a great one
